Eskom drops R383-billion electricity price bomb
Eskom says retrofitting wet flue-gas desulphurisation (FGD) ducts at its Medupi power plant will cost R383-billion, and this amount must be recovered through electricity tariffs.
Eskom released a study late on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, arguing against the cost of installing FGD equipment to limit emissions at the plant.
