Warning to people using WhatsApp community groups in South Africa
Private security firm Community Monitoring Service (CMS) has warned of increased misinformation spreading on neighbourhood WhatsApp groups, exacerbating security fears and causing social harm.
CMS social media specialist Alicia Olivier said that although WhatsApp groups were powerful communication tools, they can quickly become an additional risk in combating crime and other challenges.
