Not one brick laid after 10 years — South Africa’s R334-billion border city pipedream
Nearly 10 years since plans for the area were first approved by the South African Cabinet, not a single building has been erected in the Musina-Makhado Special Economic Zone (MMSEZ).
The Zimbabwe border-adjacent project has ground to a halt due to strong opposition from environmental groups who have raised alarm about its feasibility, as well as legal battles and administrative challenges.
