Wrong doesn’t disappear because we rename it

Imagine breaking someone’s trust. You can call it a misunderstanding. You can explain why you did it. You can say that the circumstances were complicated. You can blame the other person. You can say that you were under pressure. All of those things might help explain what happened, but the trust is still broken. The language surrounding the event doesn’t change the result.

The same principle applies to much larger things. A person can call destructive behaviour freedom, but if that freedom destroys relationships and damages the people around them, the consequences remain. A person can call greed ambition. A person can call dishonesty survival. A person can call betrayal following their heart. The vocabulary changes, but the consequences don’t. We can rename poor behaviour, reinterpret it and construct an entire story around it, but reality doesn’t necessarily change because the description has changed.

That is one reason the word SIN has retained its cultural power. It is blunt. It doesn’t give us a particularly comfortable place to hide our shame. It doesn’t ask whether our behaviour was fashionable, socially acceptable or personally satisfying. It asks a much simpler question: Was it wrong?

Lord, I call you from within my addiction. HELP ME? I have build walls of lies around myself to protect my sin. I have changed the narrative and I have sinned – I know I’m wrong! Please help me from today onward to walk in truth?
