Stuck in WordPress Maintenance Mode?
I had a strange thing happen the other day with WordPress – as per usual I did updates on my plugins and BOOM – suddenly I was locked out of my WordPress. Basically nothing I did worked – Refreshing the browser still showed the ” Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.”
When WordPress starts the update process it automatically puts your website in maintenance mode which displays the ” Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.” message to any visitor trying to access your site while in maintenance mode.
Luckily, I found an article which explained how to fix my website stuck on the maintenance mode. It’s quite easy – during the update process WordPress creates a .maintenance to avoid your clients from visiting a broken website. Your WordPress should delete the file after it is done with the update but like you just found out – things do go wrong!
Here is how you fix this…You need to be able to login via cpanel and go to the “File Manager”. In your main Root directory look for the .maintenance file and simply delete this.
***Be sure that you have givin WordPress ample time to complete the update – sometimes updates could take a while…
