Signs of piracy comeback in South Africa
At least one major Internet service provider (ISP) in South Africa has observed a significant surge in user traffic on a platform that is popular for enabling the illegal sharing of copyrighted content.
According to Axxess marketing director Franco Barbalich, the portion of traffic attributable to BitTorrent usage on the ISP’s network rose from 3% in 2024 to 7% in 2025.
